Engineering for Extreme Winds by Scott Weeks, PE and Civil Engineer

January Science Saturday was about “Engineering for Extreme Winds”. The presentation was led by Scott Weeks of Kimley-Horn, for the Florida Engineering Society. Participants built a variety of structures with several sets of materials to understand engineering principals that apply to the design of buildings. Designs were tested with fans and leaf blowers. Student volunteers from Marion County high-schools assisted, as did Scott’s colleague Alex Compano. Photography by Brooke Heller.
