THE TALK: Spine Resilience and Performance for Life
March 30, 2023
Abstract
Back pain changes over the course of a lifetime. So does robustness. Over the past 45 years Professor McGill has been probing the questions of how the spine works, and how it changes over time together with the features that define resilience. He has consulted with hundreds of elite athletes on performance enhancement and then their successful transition back to a healthy civilian life. Exercise and training stimulates adaptation. The key is to create the most appropriate adaptation for each stage of life. The lecture concludes with a plan to combine the best of resilience and performance into the senior years.
