Investigating Florida’s Springs by Mr. Scott Mitchell, Director of the Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center
April 2, 2016
The April Science Saturday, “Investigating Florida’s Springs,” was led by Mr. Scott Mitchell, Director of the Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center. Students learned that the diversity of macro-organisms in our rivers and springs is an indicator of water quality and ecosystem health. Student teams identified living macro-organisms from Silver River water samples. They used their new knowledge and observations to reach conclusions about the river. This was the last Science Saturday of the season, and we said goodbye and good luck to six regular student volunteers who are graduating, and to all of our fifth graders. This season was sponsored by Lockheed Martin and by Ron and Phyllis Ewers. This event was also sponsored by Publix Supermarket Charities.
