Investigating Florida’s Springs by Erin Benavides, Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center
October 5, 2019
Erin Benavides presented “Investigating Florida’s Springs”. Students learned how pollutants move through the aquifer and how scientists test for and identify points-of-origin of contamination. Intriguing hands-on activities brought focus to the concepts in the lesson. Our special guest, Christian Compton, is a 7th grader at Howard Middle school. He was inspired by this topic after attending a Science Saturday on this same topic 3 years ago, and he did a science fair project about the health of local springs. He told us about his experience winning at the local level and competing in the state-level science fair. (Photography by Brooke Heller and Logan Byrd.)
