Solar Energy by Tammy Hoff, Ocala Electric Utility
April 6, 2019
The last Science Saturday of the 2018-2019 school year was about “Solar Energy” and was led by Tammy Hoff. Students used volt meters to measure the output of solar cells under varying conditions. They also made solar bracelets, on which the beads turn color in response to sunlight. They applied sunscreen to the beads to see how long different SPF-factor sunscreens protected their beads from solar radiation. Student volunteers from Marion County high schools help to make Science Saturdays fun. The generous contributions from Lockheed Martin, Ron and Phyllis Ewers, and Ocala Electric Utility made it possible to offer this season of Science Saturdays free of charge for all attendees.
